Two Alabama teenagers and a woman recover after shark attack in Walton County

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Local authorities continued to patrol beaches Sunday and warn swimmers about sharks after three people were attacked Friday afternoon.

The victims were two teenage girls and a 45-year-old woman. The attacks occurred just 6.5 kilometers apart.

The condition of one of the teenage girls, who was in critical condition, is now stable. Her mother gave an update on her daughter’s condition.

Lulu Gribbin was visiting with her mother and a group of friends from Birmingham, Alabama, when the attack occurred. They were at Rosemary Beach, Lulu’s mother wrote. The teenager was with a group of friends at the first sandbar when the attack occurred.

According to Lulu’s mother, the shark bit her on the arm and leg before biting her friend McCray Faust.

Gribbin’s injuries were life-threatening. She was taken to Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola where she underwent emergency surgery. Her left arm and right leg were amputated. Lulu’s mother said in an online post that her daughter is now in stable condition but up to five more surgeries are needed to complete the amputations.

Lulu’s mother thanked everyone who helped save her daughter and prayed for her during this difficult time.

The woman, who lost the lower part of her left hand, was taken to HCA Fort Walton Destin for treatment. Hospital officials confirmed that she was also in stable condition.
