Tutor sentenced to long prison term for raping minor student in Kurukshetra | News from India

KURUKSHETRA: The fast track special court for rape and POCSO Act cases of the Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) at Kurukshetra on June 5 sentenced convict Aakash Mehta of Pehowa to 20 years of hard labour and a fine of Rs 1.12 lakh.

Kurukshetra Deputy District Attorney (DDA) Pradeep Malik said that a person from the district in his complaint dated January 18, 2021, had stated that his minor children, including his son and daughter, had gone for school fees to convict Aakash Mehta.

“Later, the complainant stopped sending his children to Aakash for classes. The complainant’s son told him that the convict had given them tranquilizers and raped his daughter. The convict had also threatened the children of dire consequences if they told anyone about the ordeal,” said DDA Malik.

He said that a case was pending against Aakash at Pehowa Sadar police station and the investigation was being carried out by a woman constable.

Malik said the minor girl’s statement was recorded in court along with her counselling by the Child Protection Committee, adding that charges were filed against Aakash during the course of investigation.

He said that on the basis of evidence, the Special Fast Track Court of the ADSJ sentenced Aakash Mehta to 20 years of imprisonment under Section 6 (Punishment for aggravated sexual assault with penetration) of the POCSO Act and a fine of Rs 60,000 and in default of payment of the fine, he will have to undergo an additional jail term of 18 months. The court also sentenced Aakash to 7 years of imprisonment under Section 77 (Intoxication by drugs, alcohol, tobacco or psychotropic substances) of the JJ Act and a fine of Rs 50,000 and in default of payment, he will have to undergo an additional jail term of 12 months. DDA Malik added that the court also sentenced him to 2 years of imprisonment under Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and a fine of Rs 2,000 and in default of payment of the fine, he will have to undergo an additional jail term of four months.
