2 injured after police pursuit on South Hoover Street near West Jefferson Boulevard

SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (June 7, 2024) – A police officer and an innocent bystander were injured in a police pursuit on South Hoover Street Thursday evening.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident occurred on May 30 around 11:30 p.m. Officers attempted to stop a suspected stolen white Mercedes, but the driver allegedly ignored commands and sped away.

As a result, a prosecution was initiated.

A short time later, an LAPD unit pursuing the suspect crashed into a street bench near West Jefferson Boulevard, just outside the University of California campus.

About three kilometers from the original collision, the suspect collided with a vehicle that was not involved in the chase.

Emergency responders took the LAPD officer and the innocent driver to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Authorities arrested the suspect on suspicion of felony evasion and car theft.

The LAPD continues to investigate the incident.
