California girl dies in motocross accident at Lake Elsinore race track

A 9-year-old girl died in a motorcycle crash at a motocross track in Southern California on Sunday, authorities said.

Brooke Carlton, 9, was riding an electric motorcycle on a “track designated for off-road vehicles” at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park around 10 a.m. Sunday when she was struck “by another juvenile who was also riding an off-road motorcycle,” the Riverside County sheriff said. Lake Elsinore is about 70 miles south of Los Angeles.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Brooke unconscious while good Samaritans performed “life-saving measures” on her. She was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office said.

Meanwhile, the other teenager was treated at the scene of the accident for minor injuries.
