Bodycam video shows dog rescued from hot U-Haul – NBC 6 South Florida

Bodycam video shows police in Florida coming to the aid of a dog who was left in a hot U-Haul truck while his owners went to the beach.

The puppy was found in the car in New Smyrna Beach on Sunday. The windows were only slightly open and there was no water, New Smyrna Beach police said.

A Good Samaritan who saw the dog called the authorities.

In the video, the dog wags his tail and pants as a police officer puts his arm through the window to give him water from a bottle.

“Hello, little baby,” sings the officer.

“Oh, it looks so thirsty,” says another as he approaches the window. “Do you want your Slim Jim?”

According to police, the owners said they left the dog locked in the house for nearly an hour.

The outside temperature at the time was 30 degrees, so the temperature inside the vehicle was probably over 38 degrees, authorities said.

“She can probably reach in there; she’s pretty cute,” the other officer says in the video. “But it’s a manual window.”

Eventually, police were able to rescue the friendly dog and take him to the Southeast Volusia Humane Society.

Charges are still pending against two people, police said.

“Never leave an animal or child alone in a vehicle, even for a short period of time. This could be fatal. Thank you to the alert person who noticed the dog in the car and reported it so we could assist,” authorities said.
