A Flintshire man has been sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of raping a teenager.

Allistair Rhys McHugh, of Penymynydd Road, Penyffordd, was sentenced at Caernarfon Crown Court today (Friday, May 31).

The 35-year-old was convicted last month of the crime, which occurred in January 2017.

McHugh, then 28 years old, stalked the 16-year-old victim over a period of time, sending her numerous messages in an attempt to lure her to his home address.

He then raped her, causing her to flee the property.

‘Courage’

Detective Sergeant Michael Starkey, who led the investigation for North Wales Police, said: “The victim has shown great resilience and courage in this case. Her bravery has shown that perpetrators of this serious crime can be brought to justice despite the time that has passed.”

“The victim’s ongoing support from dedicated Sex Offender Liaison Officers and Independent Sexual Violence Advisers was also invaluable.

“North Wales Police are committed to prosecuting the most violent and dangerous offenders against women and girls.

“I would encourage anyone who becomes a victim of such abuse to contact us. We will believe you and keep your information strictly confidential.”

Operation Unite is North Wales Police’s response to tackling violence against women and girls.
