Death of a 14-month-old child under investigation in Cocke County, Tennessee

NEWPORT, Tenn. (WATE) – The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a child that occurred Monday afternoon.

Cocke County Sheriff CJ Ball said a 14-month-old child died after being struck by a vehicle on private property. The incident occurred on Monday around 1:40 p.m.

Further details were initially not known.

Ball said the CCSO Criminal Investigation Division’s investigation is ongoing and more information will be released later.

“This is a very difficult situation and tragedy that has occurred, and our prayers go out to the families affected, the medical staff at the hospital and the first responders who were involved in the response,” Ball wrote in a news release Tuesday.
