Argument between couple on street in Birmingham ends with gunshots; man dead, woman arrested

An argument between a man and a woman ended fatally in Birmingham on Saturday evening.

Officers from the city’s North Precinct were dispatched shortly before 7:30 p.m. to a call that a person had been shot in the 3500 block of Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard North.

When they arrived on site, they found the male victim in a meadow right next to the road and next to a haulage company. He was dead at the scene.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said investigators believe the victim was involved in a domestic dispute with his girlfriend.

Apparently the shooting took place outside the vehicle the couple was traveling in. Both front doors were open and the victim was just a few meters away from the car.

Officers from the city’s North Precinct were dispatched to a call shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2024, that a person had been shot in the 3500 block of Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard North.

“We believe the girlfriend is the shooter,” he said. “She remained at the scene and may have even called 911.”

The woman is being questioned at police headquarters.

“We’re going to try to find out exactly what happened tonight,” Fitzgerald said.

The man is the second murder in the city this Saturday and the 60th in 2024. Five of these murders were judged to be justified and are therefore not considered criminal.
