Four more boys, including a 12-year-old, were arrested on suspicion of raping a young girl in Newark.

Nottinghamshire Police received a report that a teenage girl had been attacked at Yorke Drive Sports Grounds in Nottinghamshire between 5.30pm and 7pm on May 25. A 12-year-old boy, a 13-year-old boy and two 14-year-old boys were all arrested on suspicion of rape, police said. They were all released on bail and under strict conditions.

Four other teenagers, two aged 15 and two aged 16, were arrested earlier this week on suspicion of rape and all four are still out on bail, according to police. Detective Inspector Amy Revill of Nottinghamshire Police said: “We have made four further arrests in this case and our investigation continues to progress rapidly.”

“We continue to support the girl and her family with specially trained officers and are doing everything we can to find out exactly what happened. I would again appeal to the local community and anyone with information to contact us. Several people have come forward to help us with our investigation – thank you for your help.”

Inspector Charlotte Ellam, District Manager for Newark, added: “I understand the concern this incident has caused in our Newark community. But I want to make it clear that the team of investigators investigating this incident are working around the clock and we will find out exactly what happened.”

“We have been carrying out additional patrols in the area and will continue to do so, so if you have any concerns please speak to one of my officers. We would also ask people to avoid speculation as we go through this process. We will certainly keep you updated as our investigation progresses.”
