65-year-old receives suspended sentence for sending a handwritten threatening letter

Charles Turner, 65, submitted his contract between December 12 and 30, 2022, Kidderminster District Court was told on Thursday.

Prosecutor Azra Hussain said Turner, of Godiva Road, Leominster, sent a handwritten letter containing a threat with the intent to cause distress or anxiety to the recipient, an offence under the Malicious Communications Act 1988.

Judges heard that Turner made his confession on February 14 this year and handed down their sentence this week.

His guilty plea was taken into account in the imposition of a four-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months. Turner was represented in court by Jason Patel of JP Legal.

The court stated that the crimes were “so serious that only a prison sentence could be justified”, but that the execution of this sentence could be suspended.

Turner was also ordered to pay legal costs of £85.
