Buffalo Bills’ late pick praised by NFL analyst

But fourth-round rookie running back Ray Davis could play a vital role in 2024.

High expectations for Buffalo Bills’ Ray Davis

NFL analyst Marcus Mosher of the 33rd team put together a list of Day 3 NFL picks with the chance to make an immediate impact this season, and Davis made the cut.

“The Bills don’t need a developmental running back with upside potential,” Mosher writes. “They need a capable No.2 back who can spell Cook and carry the workload if necessary. That’s why Davis is a great fit for the Bills.

“It wouldn’t be a surprise if Davis opened the season as Buffalo’s clear-cut No. 2, and by the end of the season, he and Cook were sharing the backfield equally. Davis is the type of runner the Bills have lacked over the past few seasons, and his style should fare well when the weather starts to change. Outside of Keon Coleman, it wouldn’t be a shock at all to see Davis be the Bills’ second-most productive rookie this season.

Last season, Davis rushed for a career-high 1,129 yards with 14 touchdowns, in his only season in Lexington after transferring from Vanderbilt, where he spent two seasons after beginning his college career at Temple .

Meanwhile, Davis showed versatility by catching 33 passes for 323 yards with seven additional scores in 2023.

This season, Cook could play a key role in all facets of the Bills offense.
