Detroit Lions re-sign CJ Moore after one-year suspension

Just over a year after being suspended indefinitely for betting on football games, CJ Moore is returning to the Detroit Lions.

The Lions signed Moore to a one-year deal on Tuesday, the team announced, adding veteran safety to provide depth in their secondary and play on special teams. The team also signed free agent defenseman Kyle Peko.

Moore was one of five Lions suspended last spring in a gambling investigation that ultimately ensnared 10 players from five teams.

In April, the NFL reinstated Moore and four other players who sat out the entire 2023 season: former Lions Quintez Cephus and Demetrius Taylor, former Washington Commanders defensive end Shaka Toney and former Indianapolis Colts linebacker Rashod Berry.

The Lions cut Moore and Cephus the day their suspensions were announced, while Taylor had been released before his suspension.
