4-year-old boy from Zion killed in head-on collision in Waukegan

A 4-year-old boy from Zion was fatally injured Wednesday when the car he was riding in was struck head-on by another vehicle in Waukegan, Lake County authorities said.

The coroner identified the child as Kaleb Hardge.

He was sitting in a child seat when his vehicle, driven by his mother, collided at the corner of Sunset and Kellogg Avenue in Waukegan at 8:12 a.m. Wednesday.

One of the vehicles crossed the center line for an unknown reason and collided head-on with the second vehicle, the coroner’s office said. There were several injuries that required transport, the coroner’s office said.

The child was taken to Vista East Medical Center with critical, life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead, the coroner’s office said.
