A man has been found guilty of raping a homeless woman during a night out and filming the attack.

Liam Stimpson, 24, of Llanrumney, Cardiff, was found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of inducing a person to engage in sexual acts without their consent.

The attack on the 40-year-old, which Stimpson filmed with his mobile phone, occurred in Cardiff city centre on December 27 last year.

A jury at Cardiff Crown Court had already found Stimpson guilty of another count of causing grievous bodily harm with intent; the verdict will be announced on Friday.

Stimpson, who cried and screamed as the jury announced its verdict, began banging his head against the bulletproof glass of the dock., denied the allegations and claimed the woman suggested filming as part of a role play after he paid her for oral sex.

He turned to his girlfriend and parents in the stands and cried: “It wasn’t me, I love you,” before he was led away.

Judge Jeremy Jenkins told him that only a prison sentence was justified and that he would face a long time behind bars after sentencing.

The judge also paid tribute to the jury, who burst into tears when the verdicts were read out.

“They were inevitably subjected to some very unpleasant circumstances. That is the life and work of the court,” he said.

“We see it every day, but we must never forget the impact it has on you.”

Stimpson’s victim was punched and kicked during the attack in the early hours of the morning under a bridge near Cardiff Central station.

She begged her attacker to stop while she was stripped naked, beaten and raped twice.

In videos from Stimpson’s cellphone, the woman’s face was severely swollen and bleeding, and her right eye was completely closed.

She raised her hands to her attacker and said, “Don’t hit me, baby, please don’t hit me. I have children.”

Mr Stimpson was heard to reply: “I’ll tell you what to do. I’m the boss.”

He then asked her to take off her coat despite the cold and wet weather.

Prosecutor Nicola Powell said: “He beat, humiliated and degraded her because of his own sexual perversions.”

At around 4:45 a.m., CCTV footage showed the woman running toward the intersection of St. Mary Street.

She was chased, punched and repeatedly kicked to the ground before running into a nearby pub where a member of staff gave her a coat and hoodie.

Shortly afterwards the police arrived.

Stimpson was downtown on Boxing Day to celebrate his birthday when he encountered the woman sleeping on the street.

He befriended her and promised to get her something to eat if she went with him before he launched his attack.
