Two people arrested in connection with shooting outside Modern Woodmen Park

A 42-year-old woman and a 17-year-old man were arrested in connection with a shooting Tuesday in Centennial Park in Davenport, west of Modern Woodmen Park, almost below the Stanley Talbot Memorial (Centennial) Bridge.

The incident caused a delay of about 20 minutes in the baseball game between the Quad City River Bandits and the South Bend Cubs between the third and fourth innings.

Davenport Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred outside of Modern Woodmen Park at 7:13 p.m. No one was injured. A 42-year-old woman and a 17-year-old man were arrested in connection with the incident.

At 7:13 p.m., police were dispatched to the scene to investigate a report of shots fired.

The park’s grounds crew were on the field, hauling the infield between innings, when the shots rang out. They quickly dropped their equipment and ran off the field. South Bend’s players in their bullpen along the right field line also ran for the safety of their first-base dugout.

Davenport police said a verbal argument between four people who know each other escalated into gunfire. No one was injured and no property damage was reported. Officers who responded to the scene collected shell casings from the scene. Officers also confiscated a firearm used in the shooting.

Shebra Denise Waters is charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon and assault with a weapon. She was held without bail in the Scott County Jail Tuesday night. She is expected to appear in Scott County District Court on Wednesday.

The male juvenile is also charged with assault with a deadly weapon and intimidation with a deadly weapon.

Davenport Police worked with the Quad City River Bandits to ensure the safety of those attending the ballgame.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
