Damaged pylon in suspected arson attack on Tesla Giga Berlin fully repaired

A power pole near Tesla Giga Berlin that was damaged in the suspected arson attack in March has been fully repaired. The cost of repairing the facility, which was allegedly set on fire by environmental activists in protest against Tesla, amounted to over one million euros.

As in a rbb24 According to reports, the attack on the power pylon successfully interrupted the power supply to the Berlin Giga Power Plant. However, the Berlin districts of Rahnsdorf, Wilhelmshagen and Müggelheim as well as the Brandenburg towns of Erkner, Gosen-Neu-Zittau, Woltersdorf and the Grünheide districts of Fangschleuse and Freienbrink were also cut off from the power supply. Other companies in the region were also affected.

While Giga Berlin was able to resume vehicle operations quickly, the repair of the damaged mast apparently took a little longer. As the network operator Edis announced, the damaged components of the affected power mast had to be completely replaced. As part of the repair of the system, several hundred individual parts also had to be manufactured and assembled by hand.

In response to the environmental activists’ attack, the power pole will be fully secured. Camera systems that were installed at the facility after the attack will remain, Edis notes. The pole will also be fenced off and a security service will monitor the facility 24/7. That’s quite a lot of security measures for a power pole, but given the tensions in the Giga Berlin area, such efforts may well be necessary.

According to previous reports, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has called on German authorities to ensure that those behind the arson attack are caught. German Economics Minister Jörg Steinbach (SPD) said: “Elon Musk has made it clear what he expects from us. He said: ‘You absolutely have to find a way to arrest this attacker. People should not be left with the wrong message if they evade arrest.'”
