SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A semi-truck driver was arrested after colliding with an Indiana Department of Transportation vehicle, according to Sullivan County Sheriff Jason Bobbitt.

On the night of May 27, a Sullivan County deputy and a Sullivan City Police officer conducted a traffic stop following a collision between a train and a tree on U.S. Highway 41 near Silver Street in Sullivan. While work continued, INDOT crews arrived on scene to assist.

While workers were on site, a semi-truck collided with the INDOT vehicle, but no one was injured. The driver of the semi-truck, later identified as Shamseldin Elghorab of Minneapolis, left the scene. He was found and arrested a short time later.

The INDOT vehicle suffered severe front-end damage and was towed from the scene.

Elghorab, 68, was charged with criminal recklessness, reckless driving and hit and run.
