Waterspout spotted over Big Lake

LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana (KPLC) – The National Weather Service announced that a waterspout was spotted over Calcasieu Lake.

At 1:17 p.m., the National Weather Service reported strong thunderstorms with the potential for waterspouts and landspouts over Calcasieu Lake and Cameron Paris, extending along a line to the area near Vinton southeast of the Rockefeller Wildlife Range.

Officials warn that waterspouts could easily capsize boats and create locally dangerous waters, and that gusty winds could down tree limbs and blow over unsecured objects.

Secure all loose items and seek shelter if you are near this area.

The National Weather Service issued a severe weather warning for southwest Louisiana until 6 p.m. Tuesday evening.
