Russia attacks eleven municipalities in Sumy Oblast

As the regional administration reported on May 6, Russian forces attacked 11 communities in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy Oblast in 31 separate attacks throughout the day. At least 169 explosions were reported in Sumy Oblast in the last 24 hours.

The regional administration also confirmed that three people were injured in the Russian attack on the Krasnopillia municipality, including two children – a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old. According to Iryna Yukhta, a secretary of the Krasnopillia village council, all of the injured were hospitalized with mine blast injuries.

Other communities targeted by Russia included Khotin, Yunakivka, Myropillia, Bilopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Nova Sloboda, Esman, Seredyna-Buda and Znob-Novhorodske.

Throughout the day, Russia attacked border communities with mortar, artillery, grenade launcher and drone attacks. Several guided and unguided rockets targeted at least four communities, while mines were dropped on the settlement in the village of Znob-Nowhorodske.

The communities of Esman and Myropillia experienced the majority of the attacks. Twenty-seven explosions were reported in each of these areas.

Russian forces took off a drone attack in Sumy Oblast overnight on May 6 and targeted the region Energy infrastructure, according to local authorities. Ukrenergo, Ukraine’s state-owned energy utility, later reported that one of its High voltage systems damaged by the strikes.

Sumy Oblast borders on Bryansk, Russia, KurskAnd Belgorod Oblasts. Russian attacks on the region have become increasingly destructive in recent weeks, killing and injuring civilians.
