Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim acquitted in murder case

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has acquitted Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the murder case of his former manager Ranjit Singh, his lawyer said on May 28.

The leader of the Sirsa-based sect, who is also serving a 20-year prison sentence for raping two of his followers, is currently in Sunaria Jail in Rohtak.

A special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation in Panchkula had convicted Ram Rahim of murder in October 2021.

Former Dera manager Ranjit Singh, who was also a follower of the sect, was shot dead in 2002.

He was murdered because he was allegedly involved in distributing an anonymous letter describing how women were sexually exploited by the cult leader at the Dera headquarters.
