Cyclone Remal: 394 flights suspended at Kolkata airport ahead of cyclone – Find alternative routes HERE – Airlines/Aviation News

Several passengers at Kolkata airport faced inconvenience during the ongoing cyclone Remal as the airport operations were suspended for around 21 hours. If the passengers are to be believed, they were not informed by the airline about the flight cancellation either by phone or email.

Cyclone Remal is forecast to have a significant impact on the coastal region of West Bengal, including the city of Kolkata.

Meanwhile the airport Authority of IndiaAgartala, announced that all flights from Kolkata to Agartala are cancelled till 9:00 am on May 27. Passengers will be notified by respective airlines while flights from Delhi, Bangalore and Guwahati are currently operating as scheduled and further updates are awaited. “As Kolkata airport has already been closed due to the cyclonic storm, all flights to and from Kolkata have been suspended but operations on other routes i.e. Agartala-Guwahati, Agartala-Delhi and Agartala-Bangalore are taking place normally,” said an AAI official.

Flights suspended

According to the Kolkata Airport Authority, 394 flights scheduled to arrive or depart, including domestic and international flights, were suspended from Sunday noon to Monday 9 am. These included 170 provisional domestic flights and 26 provisional international arrivals.

However Airlines have issued NOTAM in Kolkata as the airline has rescheduled and cancelled some flights due to Cyclone Remal. NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) is a message from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to pilots to alert them to potential hazards that could affect their flight.

“IndiGo has postponed and cancelled some flights due to Cyclone REMAL and NOTAM issued in Kolkata. Passengers have been informed in advance of any changes and received real-time updates on social platforms. Remedial measures have been taken to avoid any inconvenience to passengers due to the cyclone,” the airline’s statement said.
