Man found dead in Kansas City car wash – police identify. Shooting near I-70 exit

Police identified a man who was killed in a shooting Friday night and found by officers.

Kevion D. Bifford, 37, was found unconscious with a gunshot wound on Van Brunt Boulevard, near Interstate 70.

Kansas City police officers on patrol near 31st and Van Brunt Boulevard heard gunshots around 6:30 p.m., police spokesman Capt. Jake Becchina said.

Following the noise, the officers were led to the car wash.

Rescue workers pronounced Bifford dead at the scene.

Officials believe Bifford was shot near the exit ramp from I-70 onto Van Brunt Street.

Police were interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence Friday to determine what led to the shooting. No further information was available Saturday.

Bifford’s killing is the 57th homicide in Kansas City this year, according to data collected by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings.

At this time last year, there were 68 murders in the city, according to the Star.
