Two suspects face charges of robbery and assault at a Hicksville tobacco shop

Two people were arrested Friday afternoon following a robbery and assault at Evolve Smoke Shop in Hicksville.

According to detectives, 20-year-old Cristian Zuluaga of Hicksville entered the store on Oyster Bay Road around 3 p.m. and attempted to steal merchandise without paying.

When a store employee tried to stop him, he hit him several times on the head.

According to authorities, 18-year-old Margarita Bournias of Syosset entered the store and became involved in the altercation. She shoved the clerk and threw a coffee cup at his head.

The two suspects then fled, but were later arrested after returning to the crime scene, according to police.

According to authorities, the employee was examined on site but refused further medical treatment.

According to police, Zuluaga and Bournias are on trial for robbery and assault. Bournias is also facing a weapons charge.
