Sidhi, May 25: Between January and May this year, at least seven tribal girls in Sidhi district of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh were raped by a man who posed as a teacher using a voice-changing app, tricked the vulnerable girls into meeting him in deserted places under the pretext of discussing scholarships, and then raped them.

According to a report in Indian TimesFour cases have been filed against the accused. Five survivors have come forward in these four cases. Shockingly, a girl accompanied by a minor was also raped by the accused. The total number of victims could be even higher, the police said. It is noteworthy that all the survivors reported rape, but no cases of gang rape have been reported yet. Police arrested the main accused, Brajesh Prajapati, who had used the voice-changing app to deceive the girls. Technical analysis revealed a similar pattern of interaction with other girls. Two accomplices of the accused were also arrested. The investigation is still ongoing. Police said the accused called schoolgirls and pretended to be a teacher in charge of their scholarships. He instructed them to meet at certain locations for verification purposes. The unsuspecting girls came thinking they were meeting a real teacher.

There he introduced her as the teacher’s son and took her on his motorcycle under the pretext of meeting the teacher. He then took her to an abandoned house on his field and raped her.

All the survivors so far are from the caste communities. The SC and ST students are receiving scholarships from the state government for their studies and the accused called those girls who were looking after their scholarships.
