The Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested four people from the Akron-Canton area during a traffic stop on Thursday for possession of a quarter pound each of methamphetamine and fentanyl.

At a WCSO press conference on the case Friday morning, WCSO Vice President Mark Warden said the traffic stop was conducted by Deputy Justin Peters for a violation of turn signal regulations.

The vehicle had a Texas license plate and had failed to use its turn signal while driving on Seventh Street in Pioneer Township. Peters stopped the vehicle and asked the driver, Kolia Lakrysal Garret, 21, Akron, for her driver’s license, insurance and vehicle registration, a WCSO news release said.

Peters said when he conducted the check, he identified the vehicle’s occupants as being from the Akron-Canton area “which we know is a source city for drugs” and while Garrett was trying to give him their information, he released his canine partner Timmy and the dog alerted to the narcotics in the vehicle.

According to the press release, Peters and other WCSO members conducted a search of the vehicle and found 111.19 grams of methamphetamine and 108.87 grams of suspected fentanyl. Peters said at the press conference that they found a bag of blue fentanyl and a bag of methamphetamine in the floor of the back seat of the car and a bag of white fentanyl in the trunk under a spare tire.

“As a result of this traffic stop, a quarter pound of methamphetamine and a quarter pound of fentanyl were seized from the vehicle,” said Warden during the press conference.

According to the press release, Garrett was arrested and charged with first-degree possession of fentanyl and second-degree possession of drugs. Her bail was set at $150,000.

Two passengers in the car, Shyann Nicole McLeod, 23, of Canton, and Myonna Jenee Boykins, 20, of Akron, were each charged with a first-degree felony count of possession of fentanyl and a second-degree felony count of possession of drugs, and their bail was set at $150,000 each.

The third passenger, Roland Marshall Reddick, 28, of Canton, was charged with first-degree possession of fentanyl, first-degree drug trafficking, second-degree drug possession and second-degree drug trafficking and his bail was set at $250,000.

According to Peters, the blue and white fentanyl in the vehicle are the same, but the color of the drug depends on what is put in it.

He said food coloring is sometimes used to change the color of fentanyl and that the sheriff’s office has already found blue, pink and purple fentanyl.

“It’s marketing,” Said the overseer.

Also at the press conference were WCSO Criminal Investigation Division Assistant Director Eric Hunter and Major Brian Rhodes. Rhodes stressed the importance of the dog being used in the drug bust. He said if the dog had not been used, it is possible that the drugs were being sold on the street.

“They are not drugs that you can easily smell,” said Rhodes.

Garret, McLeod, Boykins and Reddic were taken to the Washington County Jail, according to the news release. According to jail records, all four were still in jail Friday afternoon.
