Man posing as teacher using voice-changing app rapes 7 tribal girls in Madhya Pradesh | News from Bhopal

Between January and May, at least seven tribal girls in Sidhi district of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh were raped by a person posing as a teacher.
Bhopal: Between January and May this year, at least seven tribal girls were raped by a man who called them using a voice-changing app and asked them to come to a deserted place to discuss their scholarships. The man disguised himself as a teacher and called them.

“So far, four cases have been registered against the accused and there are five survivors in these four cases. One girl went to him with a minor and the accused raped the minor too. But during interrogation, the accused has admitted to raping seven girls so far, the details of other two survivors are being verified. The number of victims could be more. So far all the survivors have reported rape, no survivor has reported any incident of gang rape so far. We have also arrested his two accomplices. The investigation is still on,” SP Sidhi, Ravindra Verma told TOI.

“All these incidents have been taking place since January this year. However, no survivor reported it. Around 5-6 days ago, a survivor reported it to the police. When we did technical analysis, we found that the accused was interacting with other girls in a similar pattern. The main accused Brajesh Prajapati was arrested and produced in court the same evening and we sought his remand. His first remand ended on Friday and we have remanded him in judicial custody for three days,” said Verma.

“How he got the girls’ phone numbers is still being investigated. So far, it has come to light that the accused called the students of a particular college posing as a teacher. He asked them to come to a particular place to check their scholarships or for some other reason. The unsuspecting survivors reached there thinking that a teacher had asked them. There, he introduced them as the teacher’s son and took them on his motorcycle on the pretext of meeting the teacher. He then took her to an abandoned house in his field and raped her,” Verma told TOI.

“The accused is not working at present,” he said. All the survivors so far are from the caste communities. The SC and ST students receive scholarships from the state government for their studies. The accused called them posing as a teacher who is looking after their scholarships.
