A man was killed in a motorcycle accident shortly before 11 a.m. on Route 15 south in Clinton Township.

Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr. confirmed that the deceased died at the scene and was in the process of notifying next of kin. The accident occurred at 10:49 a.m. and numerous people were at the scene for nearly three hours starting at 1:45 p.m. Friday.

Kiessling said he was told the motorcyclist was traveling with a group of other motorcyclists from southern New York State to an event on Memorial Day weekend.

Pennsylvania State Police were on scene in the 4000 block of Route 15 to determine the cause of the accident.

Clinton Township Fire Chief Todd Winder said he was grateful for the concrete-walled median, approved by the state Department of Transportation (PennDOT), and had personnel on site.

The barrier that separates the southbound and northbound lanes of Route 15 likely prevented the motorcycle from entering the northbound lanes. The highway was particularly busy on the Friday before the Memorial Day holiday.

Winder ordered a stop to southbound traffic. Numerous members of the volunteer fire department and PennDOT assisted in directing traffic.
