Heroic rescue in Yonkers, motorcycle chase, postman arrested

A dramatic rescue operation took place in the parking lot of Kohl’s on Central Avenue during Thursday’s storm. When firefighters arrived, they found a car submerged in at least three feet of water. Trapped inside was a pregnant woman who couldn’t open her door. Firefighters quickly pumped up a rescue boat, maneuvered it to the car, and helped the woman get out through a window. They brought her safely to shore.

A motorcycle chase in Mahopac ended in an arrest. According to police, they attempted to pull over the motorcyclist on May 11 because his rear license plate was not visible. The chase continued on Route 6 past the Mahopac Shopping Center until the motorcycle broke down. The 28-year-old man was arrested, received 60 tickets and was charged with reckless driving and fleeing from police.

A U.S. Postal Service mail carrier was arrested for targeting victims on her mail route in Mount Vernon in a fraud and identity theft scheme. Tameka Babulal is accused of stealing credit cards, checks and identities from the mail, and her husband has also been charged. When investigators searched their home, they discovered dozens of credit cards and checks in other people’s names, as well as several bundles of undelivered mail. Babulal has been suspended indefinitely from her job with the Postal Service.
