Indy Star writer suspended, will not cover Fever Games after Caitlin Clark incident

Gregg Doyel, a longtime sportswriter at the Indy StarAccording to a report from Bob Kravitz, , has been suspended for two weeks and will no longer cover Indiana Fever games this season following his press conference incident with Caitlin Clark.

Kravitz, a former author at Indy Star himself, announced the news on his Substack on Tuesday. Doyel hasn’t published a column since April 29, even though the Pacers were in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Doyel would not comment on the incident or the associated suspension when contacted by Kravitz for comment. He is expected to return to work on Monday, May 13th.

Doyel’s discipline dates back to Clark’s introductory press conference with the Fever on April 17. During the press conference, he began a question by giving Clark her patented heart gesture. When Clark asked if Doyel liked her familiar hand sign, Doyel replied, “Start doing it to me and we’ll get along just fine,” prompting an uncomfortable look from Clark.

Doyel was widely criticized in the media for his strange encounter with Clark, so it should come as no surprise that he was punished for his antics.
