Bills linebacker Matt Milano is still at least a month away from being cleared to practice, coach says

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Buffalo Bills linebacker Matt Milano should not be allowed to return to practice until the team’s mandatory three-day minicamp next month, at the earliest, coach Sean said Tuesday McDermott.

McDermott added that Milano spent much of the last month training in Buffalo and that the eighth-year player remains on track in his recovery after suffering a serious right leg injury in Week 5 of last season. Milano was spotted watching practice from the sideline during Buffalo’s second day of spring voluntary workouts.

“It’ll probably be closer to training camp until we see him there, maybe a few drills before that, maybe not,” McDermott said of the 2022 All-Pro player and a a fixture in the middle of the Bills defense ever since. his rookie season in 2017. “It will just depend on how he continues to progress at this point.”

Milano, one of the team’s most reliable tackles, required surgery after breaking his leg and other injuries during a 25-20 loss to Jacksonville in a game played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on October 8.

McDermott said starting right tackle Spencer Brown is back after undergoing shoulder surgery in the offseason.

The Bills have three more weeks of voluntary sessions before opening mandatory camp in mid-June. The team is then on leave until training camp opens in suburban Rochester, New York on July 24.
