Two police officers in Bengaluru suspended after video raises suspicion of bribery

Bengaluru: Two police officers have been suspended after a video circulating online showed them allegedly taking bribes.

In the video, officials from Rajagopalanagar police station drive away from Hoysala in a patrol car after receiving something from a shopkeeper.

A man can be heard shouting, “Police Kalla, Police Kalla,” which roughly means “Police thief, police thief,” and running after the car.

DH could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Saidulu Adavath suspended Assistant Sub-Inspector Neelanjaneya Murthy and Police Constable Prasanna Kumar over the video.

The deputy commissioner of police (Peenya sub-district) has been assigned to investigate the case.

Adavath said the police officers had denied the allegation, adding that the timing of the video made it seem that way. “However, since the video shows them receiving something, we have suspended them and are waiting for a report. They said they had bought a water bottle and paid the shopkeeper. While they were receiving change from him, the video was shot,” he said DH.

The two officers explained to the DCP that they did not stop the car to avoid unnecessary confrontation.
