Henderson Co. students are honoring a boy who was struck and killed while riding his bicycle

HENDERSON CO., Ky. (WFIE) – Henderson County Schools students are asked to wear green on Wednesday.

It’s all in honor of Bentlee Cook.

He is the Jefferson Elementary School student who was struck and killed by a car while riding his bicycle this week, according to authorities.

(“He was 9 years young. It was too short for him”: Boy hit and killed on bicycle in Union Co.)

Officials say Cook apparently accidentally rode his bike into the intersection and into the path of the oncoming truck.

Sheriff Thomas said the 86-year-old driver was unable to avoid hitting the child.

The boy was taken to hospital where he died.

Bentlee is described by his parents as an athlete who loved nature, sports, his family and God.
