Tokyo and Seoul are strengthening their defense ties with an agreement to prevent a recurrence of radar incidents

Sources said Tokyo and Seoul want to reach an agreement on measures to prevent a recurrence of a 2018 incident in which a South Korean warship pointed its fire control radar at a Maritime Self-Defense Force patrol aircraft, boosting bilateral defense ties .

Defense ministers from the two neighbors hope to use the deal negotiations to boost their defense ties, which have been in limbo since the incident.

The meeting is scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the Asian Security Summit, better known as the Shangri-La Dialogue, starting May 31 in Singapore.
