Ludlow man sleeping in Szot Park parking lot arrested, firearm seized

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Ludlow man was arrested for trespassing when he was found sleeping in his vehicle in Szot Park while it was closed.

Chicopee after a firearm was confiscated while entering a local park.


According to Chicopee Police, officers were conducting a property check at Szot Park at 10:30 p.m. on May 13 and noticed a vehicle in the parking lot. As officers approached the vehicle, they saw a man sleeping in the driver’s seat, leaning back. After officers tried to get his attention for several minutes, the man woke up and was asked to get out of the vehicle.

Officers told him he was trespassing at Szot Park and that all parks in Chicopee were closed after dark. After the man was arrested, an inventory of the vehicle was conducted, during which officers found a firearm in a shoulder bag.

Matthew Swenor24, of Ludlow, was arrested and charged with:

  • Trespassing
  • Carrying a firearm without LTC
  • Carrying a loaded firearm without LTC
  • Possession of ammunition without an FID
