1 dies in pedestrian accident on Highway 5 in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (May 20, 2024) – A woman died in a pedestrian accident on the 5 Freeway near Highway 50.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the pedestrian accident occurred around 12:45 p.m. Sunday. For an unknown reason, a female pedestrian was on the northbound 5 Freeway at the intersection with Highway 50. Subsequently, a woman driving a Toyota northbound at 65 miles per hour was unable to stop in time.

Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter and discovered that the pedestrian, a woman in her 20s from Sacramento, had died at the scene. The driver stayed and cooperated with police investigators, who did not suspect impairment played a role.

Officials closed all northbound lanes for over an hour due to the crash, which damaged the Toyota’s windshield, driver’s side fender and mirror.
