Pastor suspends collection offer due to distress in Nigeria

A video of a pastor announcing the cessation of fundraising at his church went viral.

The pastor, who delivered the message to his congregation in both English and Yoruba, said the situation in the country prompted him to take this step.

He added that the cessation of offerings does not mean that the pastors will go hungry, but added that if God really calls them, they will survive.

The priest, who spoke to cheers and applause from his church members, also urged clergy across the country to do the same.

A pastor in Lagos State has caught the attention of Nigerians after he announced the suspension of collections in his church.

“Today, due to the situation in this country, do not collect offerings for the time being. “Right now we are waiting for the offer,” he said.

“All pastors should be aware that we should stop collecting offerings pending the situation in this country. The reason for this is that a church member can come to church with a fare of N1,000 and still make a donation and then return home.

“Am I making sense? Not making a sacrifice does not mean that the pastor would starve if he were truly called. But until the price of gas goes down, we are not collecting donations for the time being in our church.

“Come and serve your God and go home. Until the price of gasoline falls. It is not easy. You go to work tomorrow, you don’t know, maybe the fare for transport to Mushin would be N500 or N700.

“To all pastors: Stop collecting offerings. One thing I would like to say: stop collecting offerings for now. Stop collecting offerings for now.”
