Rochester man arrested after falling asleep on highway and crashing. 52

Marion Township, MN (KROC-AM News) – A Rochester man was arrested after a crash on the highway. 52 on the weekend.

Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Captain Tim Parkin said the accident occurred around 12:15 p.m. Saturday morning. The accident was initially reported as an accident with injuries.

Parkin says the accident investigation revealed the driver fell asleep at the wheel, crashed into a tree and then continued driving before hitting a deck and a parked vehicle.

The vehicle came to a stop in the 5400 block of Highway. 52 Southeast in Marion Township, which is south of Hwy. 52/I-90 interchange, according to the crash report.

33 years old The driver was identified as James Benson. He was determined to remain unharmed.

Parkin said officers suspected Benson of impaired driving and arrested him on suspicion of fourth-degree drunken driving.

No other injuries were reported. There is no estimate of the property damage caused by the single-vehicle accident.
