Tripura: Tripura man arrested for sexual assault on minor | Agartala News

Agartala: A 57-year-old man was arrested in Tripura’s Gomati district on Saturday on charges of sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl while she was returning home from school. After his arrest, locals stormed the police station at night and demanded exemplary punishment for the accused. Station officer in charge Rajib Bhowmik said, “The interrogation of the accused is continuing and he has been booked under Sections 341 and 354 of the IPC and Section 8 of the Pocso Act.” Police said the minor girl was affected, a Third grade student, was allegedly stopped by the accused, identified as Safik Miah, on a deserted stretch of road. He then grabbed the child and sexually abused her. However, the girl managed to escape from the spot and when she reached home, she told her parents about the ordeal. The girl’s father immediately filed a complaint, after which the police arrested Safik Miah that evening.
