4 dead in three-vehicle crash on SR-76 in North County

FALLBROOK, Calif. – A three-vehicle crash on State Route 76 in northern San Diego County left four people dead Saturday, authorities said.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred just before 11:20 p.m. Friday on SR-76 east of Horse Ranch Creek Road in the Fallbrook area.

The unknown driver of an eastbound Chrysler 300 crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with the front of a Jeep Gladiator driven westbound by a 58-year-old man, according to the CHP. A westbound Toyota Camry that was behind the Jeep was involved in a minor side-swipe with the Jeep after the initial impact.

The drivers of the Chrysler and Jeep died at the scene, along with two adult passengers in the Jeep, CHP said. A third adult passenger in the Jeep suffered serious injuries.

According to the CHP, it was not yet known whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident. The identities of the victims were not released.
