Sean “Diddy” Combs files a motion to dismiss “decades-old” Jane Doe sexual assault case

In a recent legal development, music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs and his legal team have filed a motion to dismiss a decades-old sexual assault lawsuit. The case, filed by a woman identified as Jane Doe, alleges that Combs, along with former Bad Boy Entertainment president Harve Pierre and another individual referred to as a “third assailant” at the time of Jane Doe, who was involved in sex trafficking and gang rape, was just 17 years old.

The lawsuit was originally filed in December 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. At the heart of Jane Doe’s claims is an incident that allegedly occurred in a New York recording studio. According to her account, she was given drugs and alcohol before being “viciously raped” by the defendants one by one after they were persuaded to fly to Combs’ recording studio on a private jet.

Combs has consistently denied all allegations in the ongoing sexual assault lawsuits against him. That’s what his legal team argues

“This is Jane Doe’s second attempt to make a completely false and despicable allegation against the Combs defendants.”

They reject the plaintiff’s use of the “trigger warning” in their brief as “legally irrelevant” and consider it a “stunt” designed to cause unwanted publicity, embarrassment and financial cost to the defendants.

The motion further states that Jane Doe cannot provide the exact day or time of year when the alleged incident occurred. Combs’ lawyers are asking that the case be dismissed “without prejudice” to protect their client’s reputation and prevent further reputational damage. They emphasize that the allegations had already significantly damaged Combs’ reputation in the industry even before evidence was presented.

This isn’t the first time Combs has faced sexual assault allegations. In November 2023, singer Cassie, with whom he dated on and off from 2007 to 2018, accused him of raping and abusing her during their decades-long relationship. The rapper’s legal battles continue and the outcome of this motion will significantly impact the course of the case.

As the court case unfolds, the entertainment industry is watching closely. Combs’ motion to dismiss sheds light on the complexities of sexual assault cases, the importance of evidence and the impact such allegations can have on reputations and careers. Regardless of the outcome, the case serves as a reminder that justice must prevail, especially for survivors who bravely tell their stories.
