Rock Island police are investigating a homicide at a residence

According to a news release, officers responded to the Maple Ridge Apartments in the 3700 block of 5th Street just before 4:45 p.m. Police found a 21-year-old man in a parking lot with life-threatening gunshot wounds.

The unidentified man was transported by ambulance to UnityPoint Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries, the release said.

There had been no arrests as of 8 p.m. Saturday.

The Rock Island Police Department Criminal Investigation Division is continuing the investigation. No further information was available as of Saturday 8 p.m.

Officers spoke with neighbors in the area of ​​Maple Ridge Apartments, where crime scene tape was posted.
