Man arrested after allegedly selling stolen motorcycle

A local probation officer was arrested Tuesday on theft charges stemming from allegations he sold a stolen motorcycle to another man last month.

Lamont Levi Green, 53, who gave a Laser Street address, was taken into custody shortly after 11:30 a.m. at the Probation and Parole Office, 615 W. Grand Ave., and booked on charges of receiving stolen property over $5,000 and theft by Receiving more than $5,000 charged with receiving more than $5,000, each punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Green was released later the same day on $7,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Garland County District Court on June 21. According to court records, he was convicted of fourth-degree sexual assault on February 21, 2019 and sentenced to 15 years in prison, but was later paroled.

According to the affidavit, shortly after 4:30 p.m. on April 11, a man came to police to report a theft. The man said he purchased a 2012 Harley-Davidson Glide motorcycle for $8,500 from Green at a residence on Third Street in Hot Springs around 6 p.m. on April 10.

He said Green provided him with a certificate of origin and a bill of sale for the motorcycle. He noted that the motorcycle had 100,000 miles on it, even though Green had advertised that it had 10,000 miles on it and it was unregistered.

The man contacted Conway police to verify the vehicle identification number, but the motorcycle’s identification number was not listed. He contacted the Conway dealer listed on the certificate of origin and learned that the dealer does not sell Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

The dealer took the VIN number from the engine control unit and discovered that the motorcycle had been reported stolen in Richardson, Texas. Hot Springs police also checked the VIN and confirmed it was stolen.

HSPD Detective SC Jones contacted an insurance company in Richardson and was able to confirm that the motorcycle was reported stolen. However, the owner had filed an insurance claim, so it was now owned by the insurance company. After further investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Green on May 2nd.
