One Red Lake woman dies, three are hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash in Pennington County

PENNINGTON COUNTY — A Red Lake woman was pronounced dead and three people were hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash May 3 in rural Pennington County.

According to a Minnesota State Patrol report, on Friday, May 3, a Chrysler minivan was traveling east on Center Street East and a Buick LeSabre was traveling east on 310th Ave around 9 p.m. NE southbound in Highlanding Township when the vehicles collided.

The driver of the minivan, 49-year-old Mary Jean May of Red Lake, was pronounced dead. The two passengers in the minivan were taken to hospitals in Thief River Falls and Fargo for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Buick LeSabre, 38-year-old Justin David Schultz of Mcintosh, was taken to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo for non-life-threatening injuries.

The report listed alcohol as a cause of Schultz’s accident. The road condition was dry at the time of the accident.

Responding agencies included the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Goodridge Fire Department, Oklee Fire Department, Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Sanford Ambulance and Sanford Air Med.
