Biker killed in East County pileup – NBC 7 San Diego

A 66-year-old Los Angeles-area resident was fatally injured in a double motorcycle crash in the eastern highlands of San Diego County over the weekend, authorities reported Monday.

The La Mirada man was riding with a group of motorcyclists through the Wynola area just before 10:30 a.m. Sunday when his eastbound 2020 Harley-Davidson Low Rider veered into a westbound lane near Springview Road and collided sideways with an oncoming 2024 Chevrolet Silverado pulling a trailer, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The impact caused the two-wheeler to overturn and the driver to fall onto the road, where he came to rest under his motorcycle. One of the other motorcyclists, a 55-year-old man from Mission Viejo, swerved to avoid the accident and also crashed his Harley-Davidson into the pickup truck, said Jared Grieshaber, spokesman for the CHP.

Paramedics declared the elderly man dead en route to Santa Ysabel, where he was to be taken by helicopter to a hospital. His name was withheld pending notification of family.

An ambulance took the other driver involved in the rear-end collision to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.

“Both motorcyclists were wearing helmets, and drugs and/or alcohol probably did not play a role in the accident,” said Grieshaber.

The driver of the Silverado, a 38-year-old man from San Diego, and a passenger in the truck were not injured in the accident, according to the Highway Patrol.
