Weather warning day: Wildfire smoke could affect air quality in East Tennessee on Tuesday

People with sensitive respiratory systems should try to limit their time outdoors on Tuesday as smoke moves in from the north.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tuesday is expected to be a hazy day as a plume of smoke from distant wildfires to the north moves into the East Tennessee region.

The smoke is expected to worsen air quality in the region, so people with sensitive respiratory systems should try to stay indoors and avoid travelling. The smoke may also reduce visibility, so people should drive with caution if they need to go outside.

Smoke is expected to persist throughout the day, so people should try to limit the time they spend outdoors.

Storms are also expected in the East Tennessee region on Tuesday, with the potential for flooding and downed trees. More information on these storms can be found here.

What effects can the smoke have on me?

Air quality is expected to decrease during the late afternoon and evening of Tuesday, and visibility will be reduced due to haze. Smoke is also expected to persist into Wednesday.
