According to Rochester police, several people were shot in Maplewood Park on Sunday, one of them fatally

Rochester police are investigating a shooting incident early Sunday evening in Maplewood Park in which seven people were shot, one fatally.

Details are still unclear, but police said they responded to a park on Bridge View Drive around 6:20 p.m. because shots had been fired. They found several gunshot victims in a large gathering of people in the park.

According to RPD, in addition to the fatality, another person appears to be critically injured. Police say it is currently unclear what led to the shooting and how many people fired shots.

Police noted that numerous videos are circulating on social media and are urging anyone with video or details of the shooting to call 911, 311 or CrimeStoppers at 585-423-9500.

The mass shooting was preceded by at least two other murders in recent days.

Early Sunday morning, police responded to the area near Sherman St. and Lyell Ave. and found a man in his 30s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He later died at the hospital. RPD says the Sherman Street building where the man was found was used to sell drugs, but an investigation must be conducted to determine if the murder is related to drug trafficking.

Police are also investigating a fatal stabbing attack that occurred Friday night at a corner store at 917 North Street.

According to police, 38-year-old Christopher Austin was killed in the incident. When Austin entered the store, he was confronted by 45-year-old Herbert Montgomery, who is accused of stabbing Austin in the neck and killing him.

Montgomery is charged with 2and The defendant is charged with first-degree murder. According to police, he is a twice convicted felon who is currently on probation after a drug conviction.

Police also charged 42-year-old Sara Lee McFadden with tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution in connection with Austin’s death.
