1 dead after SWAT standoff and house fire in Coeur d’Alene

Coeur d’Alene police found a dead man in a house that caught fire after a SWAT team standoff.

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – A man was found dead Sunday afternoon in a home that caught fire during a SWAT patrol in Coeur d’Alene.

According to the Coeur d’Alene Police Department (CDAPD), officers responded to a 911 call about shots fired at a home around 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 28.

Officers arrived near 1300 North 9th Street and found a man with a rifle standing in front of the house.

The officers tried to shout orders to the man, but he did not cooperate and went back into the house.

While officers were attempting to secure the area, the house was set on fire. Officers reported hearing a gunshot inside the house.

According to CDAPD, the house was already fully engulfed in flames when the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department arrived and was able to extinguish the fire.

When CDAPD investigators managed to enter the house, they found a dead person inside.

CDAPD detectives have been on site since 5:00 p.m. The investigation is currently ongoing.
