Mother and child die after single-vehicle accident overnight in Livermore

(KRON) — A mother and her five-year-old child died after an accident Sunday night, the Livermore Police Department (LPD) said. The accident occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. on South Vasco Road near Naylor Avenue.

When LPD officers arrived at the scene, they saw that the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames. The emergency services managed to pull a 25-year-old man out of the car.

The man was taken to hospital along with his girlfriend and five-year-old child. However, the child’s 24-year-old mother died at the scene of the accident, police said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a black Hyundai was traveling north on South Vasco Road north of Las Positas Road. For an unknown reason, police said, the car left the roadway and struck a tree. No other cars were involved in the crash.

The man has been in critical condition since Monday evening, police said. All three victims are from Manteca. The LPD said the identities of the mother and her child will be released by the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau.

It is not known whether drugs and/or alcohol played a role in the collision.
