Rape: Man arrested for raping 16-year-old girl in Basti | Kanpur News

Kanpur: A man from Basti has been arrested for sexually exploiting a minor girl (16) on the pretext of marriage. He had befriended the girl through a social media app. Acting on a complaint by the girl’s family, the police have arrested the accused and sent him to jail. The girl came in contact with Akhilesh Jaiswal (24) of Cantonment in Sunavarsha village of Basti district through Instagram. After promising to marry her, he sexually abused the girl in a hotel in Rawatpur. Later, Akhilesh refused to marry her and raped her again after threatening to circulate her obscene photos and videos on social media. The girl informed her family about the matter, who then approached Rawatpur police and filed a complaint against Akhilesh. Rawatpur police station in-charge Ashok Kumar Saroj said that based on the girl’s complaint, an FIR was filed under relevant sections of the IPC, including rape, as well as the Pocso Act. The accused was arrested from Basti. He was taken to Kanpur and sent to jail on Sunday. tnn
