The chance of rain remains high while temperatures remain lower

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (WSFA) – New week…same weather. The pattern of daily rain and thunderstorms, high humidity, and lots of clouds will continue through the end of the week. In this case, it will work to our advantage! The extra clouds and rain will mean a little less heat over the next week or so. Each day, afternoon/evening precipitation will reach about 50-60%, while highs will climb to the high 30s to low 35s. That’s several degrees cooler than normal for this time of year. As for the rain, it’s needed, as parts of central and southern Alabama are in the grip of an unusually to moderately dry drought.

Today it will be cloudy, but some sunshine is also expected. Humidity is high. The wind will be from the southwest at around 8 km/h and can be stormy at times.

During the afternoon, isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible, lasting until the early evening hours. Maximum temperatures will reach 30 to 35 degrees Celsius. Clouds will remain overnight, minimum temperatures will be 25 to 35 degrees Celsius and the wind will be light to calm.

The reason for the increased rain and storm chances is a blocked boundary. Normally in the summer we have a 20% chance of one rain shower or storm per day… but thanks to this boundary and the pulses of energy moving towards us, that chance of rain is increasing to 50-60% each day.

Along with the increased chance of rain, the increased humidity will also remain. This means that the sticky, icky feeling in the air will be felt in full force whether it rains in your area or not.

As is typical for summer, some places experience heavy rain, lightning, thunder and gusty winds, while other areas are just warm and humid with lots of clouds.

Since the weather pattern doesn’t change much, Tuesday through Friday will look like carbon copies of each other… Expect highs of around 32 degrees and lows of around 21 degrees during this period. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are possible each day, with plenty of clouds and some sunshine.
